Delphi Fire Department Responds To Rapidly-Growing Brush Fire

The Delphi Fire Department responded to a rapidly-spreading brush fire that was maintained to cause minimal structural damage to a local residence.

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, around 1:45 p.m., the Delphi Fire Department responded to the area of Bicycle Bridge Road and 1275 West for a rapid growing brush fire. According to the department, homeowners were able to keep the fire away from their homes with fire extinguishers and garden hoses until firefighters arrived.

Tippecanoe Township Volunteer Fire Department firefighters were also on the scene quickly as they responded while returning from a medical call. Brookston Prairie Township Fire Department and Carroll County E911 also aided in the response.

“Automatic mutual aid agreements are paramount for a quick, effective and safe response within our large coverage area to many types of calls,” the department released.

The cause of the fire was not released, but firefighters and wildlife professionals have stated that to avoid brush fires, never leave campfires unattended, always properly extinguish all fires before leaving the area, clear away dead vegetation and debris around the property, maintain equipment and spark arresters and be aware of fire danger levels in the area.
