The Delphi Oracles secured their title as the Sectional Champions on Wednesday night after defeating the Carroll Cougars in a slow-starting game 5 to 0.
The Lady Oracles and Cougars started the game slowly as they held each other to scores of zero in the first four innings, but the Oracles would pick up steam in the fifth inning as they strove to secure another Sectional title.
The Lady Oracles bats came alive in the fifth inning as they slammed in three runs against the Cougars defense that held strong for the first four innings, widening the gap in the scores to 3 to 0 in favor of Delphi.
The Oracles continued their multi-run streak in the sixth inning, racking up two more runs to round out the game as the Oracles secured victory with a 5 to 0 score.
Despite only scoring five runs, the Lady Oracles racked up 12 hits while only giving two errors away. The Cougars secured three hits while racking up four errors.
Renowned pitcher Lexi Miller would lead the Lady Oracles to victory on the defensive side as she only gave up three hits and racked up 14 strikeouts, continuing her streak of throwing at least five strikeouts in 23 consecutive pitching appearances.
On offense, the Lady Oracles relied on Jenna Roth, who scored a run and stole two bases while racking up a record of three for four at the plate. Roth has become known for her baserunning as she has stolen at least one run in the last four games that she has played. Emma Titus was also a prominent aspect of the Lady Oracles victory on the offensive side as she scored a run and stole two bases while going two for 4 at the plate.
The Lady Oracles are looking to be the frontrunners going into their regional faceoff with a record of 17 wins and 8 losses, but the Rochester Zebras are close behind with 16 wins and 9 losses throughout the season.
The Oracles are gearing up for Regionals on Tuesday, May 28 at 6 p.m. against the Rochester Zebras as the Delphi Lady Oracles are hosting Regional Tailgate at Bob Conner Field in Delphi.
The tailgate will kick off at 4:30 p.m. at the Delphi Elementary parking lot near the playground, and all community members are welcomed to bring food and fun alongside lawn chairs, games and coolers to celebrate.
