A Delphi Oracle achieved her 1,000th career strikeout as Delphi faced off against Rossville Wednesday night, and the Delphi Oracles announced three track and field members who have qualified for the regional competition.
Delphi senior pitcher Lexi Miller found herself staring down Rossville freshman Caydence Robey at the plate with a count of one ball and two strikes as she began her wind-up, speeding a rise ball that bated Robey’s bat, leading two another strikeout on Miller’s record, which happened to break the 1,000th strikeout milestone of her career.
As she secured her 1,000th strikeout in her career, Miller extended her already-established record and became the first Oracle in history to reach the 1,000 milestone. While Miller finished the game against the Hornets with 12 strikeouts, three errors caused a rally that led to the Oracles defeat with a final score of 8 to 1 for the Hornets to take the Hoosier Heartland Conference Championship title.
Delphi Community School Corporation also announced that Sam Brown qualified for the regional competition in pole vault, Miah Sinks qualified for the regional competition in long jump with two sectional champion runs in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash and Lily Sandifur qualified for the regional competition for high jump with a Hoosier Heartland Conference Champion title.
