A Delphi Police Department officer was recently awarded the Medal of Valor for his actions on Sept. 11, 2023 that prompted his leave due to months of rehabilitation being necessary following the incident.
According to the department, Officer Justin Wilson was assisting Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy Spencer Kingery in a vehicle pursuit on Sept. 11 when the vehicle being pursued suddenly turned into the path of Wilson’s police vehicle, which resulted in a crash that seriously injured Wilson.
In the following months, Wilson underwent multiple surgeries and intensive therapy, not knowing whether he would be able to return. 295 days later, Wilson was presented with the Medal of Valor and a hearty welcome back to the department as he exemplified a renewed vigor for the department.
“Officer Wilson had multiple surgeries, doctor’s appointments and physical therapy during his 295 days on injured status,” the department released. “He shot a perfect score when qualifying with his new firearm and has returned to full duty.”
