Demolition of the Werner and Son, Inc. Recycling Center at 600 W. Kyger St. in Frankfort officially began Monday. Ridenour & Sons is handling the demolition.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, Frankfort firefighters were dispatched to the commercial structure fire. When units arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the northeast corner of the structure.
A total of 40 firefighters were on the scene including firefighters from the Lebanon Fire Department along with volunteer departments from Michigantown and Rossville.
Kyger Street was closed between Rossville Avenue and North John Street for the majority of the day before being reopened shortly after 6 p.m. Monday. A Shelter in Place was issued late Monday afternoon. However, it was lifted less than two hours later.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is not known.
