At approximately 5:42 p.m. Wednesday, Deputy Wells and Deputy Light responded to a report of a disturbance between individuals in two vehicles. One subject was alleged to be armed with a handgun, traveling eastbound on State Road 28.
Officers obtained information that indicated the incident may have been over the attempt to cash a fraudulent $5000 check. After collecting information, Deputy Wells observed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on State Road 28 East. Chief Deputy Lappin and Deputy Light arrived on scene to assist in the investigation. During the investigation, a handgun was recovered and a records check indicated the firearm to be stolen.
Arrested was 29-year-old Jonathon Stafford. He was charged with Intimidation, a Level 6 Felony; Possession of a Stolen Firearm; and Possession of a Firearm without a License.
Formal charges are pending from the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office.
