The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will stock 755 rainbow trout across three locations in Fort Wayne and Huntington this fall, increasing options for anglers to enjoy trout fishing in the region.
“The fall stocking program provides an accessible, family friendly opportunity for people to enjoy the excitement of fishing in community settings,” said Matthew Linn, Indiana DNR’s fisheries research biologist.
There will be 315 trout stocked at Shoaff Park Pond in Shoaf Park, located on Fort Wayne’s northeast side at 6401 St. Joe Road. Spy Run Creek will receive 215 trout where it enters Franke Parke, across the parking lot from the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo at 3411 Sherman Boulevard. Memorial Park, west of downtown Huntington at 1200 West Park Drive, will be stocked with 225 trout in its north pond only.
The stocked fish will average 13 to 15 inches in length and are sourced from Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station.
Stocking is expected to be completed by Friday, Oct. 23, and fishing at these locations may begin then. All anglers age 18 and older must have a valid Indiana fishing license and trout stamp, which can be purchased at GoOutdoorsIN.com or in the GoOutdoorsIN app. The daily harvest limit is five trout per angler. All other fishing regulations can be found at on.IN.gov/fishingguide.
