Life’s journey came to an end for Donald William “Barney” Barnett on March 26, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 78. He is survived by his son, Daniel Barnett (Barbara), daughter, Tammy McRae (Morris), stepchildren Tami Wieland (Paul), Burton Neesvig, grandsons, Jordan Anderson and Ryan Rocha, granddaughters Kayla Travis (Tyler) and Julianna Neesvig, great grandson, Tanner Tyler, brothers, Charles. Barnett, Gordon Barnett (Carol Jo), Steve Barnett (Linda), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Madge Barnett, first wife, Jeanette and second wife, Roberta, brother Doug and sisters, Donna and Trudy.
Barney was born in Frankfort, Indiana on December 12, 1942. He grew up farming and was the oldest of 7 children. He joined the United States Air Force in 1961 and served our country for for 20 years. During those years he traveled the world with his wife, Jeanette and ultimately retired in San Antonio in 1981. Barney loved the outdoors; camping, fishing, hunting and even sitting on his porch each morning working his crossword puzzle. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends having a good meal and a playing a game of poker or darts. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
A private Memorial service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on May 7th at 3:00 p.m. The service is limited due to COVID restrictions. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society.
