Downtown Fire in January Ruled Undetermined

The cause of the fire at 50 West Washington Street on Tuesday, January 22, is undetermined according to fire officials from the Frankfort Fire Department, Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, the ATF and private insurance fire investigators.

The fire destroyed two buildings and displayed five members of two families who were living in the upstairs apartments. One firefighter was injured when he fell through a second story floor. Two businesses were lost in the fire.

Investigators have been examining the scene for the past week and have ruled out all accidental and incendiary causes of the fire. The Frankfort Fire Department has now released the properties involved to the Frankfort Building Inspector to oversee debris removal and cleanup process.
