Dr. José Ignacio Ramos, 92, of Frankfort passed away September 3, 2025 at Hooverwood Living in Indianapolis. He was born on November 13, 1932 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to José Ramos Aguirre and Ulpiana (Fernandez) de Ramos. He married Gail Deanne Worth on October 27, 1956 in Carmel and she survives.
José is a 1950 graduate of Benjamin Harrison High School in Cayey, Puerto Rico. He began college at Marquette University and transferred to Butler University where he earned his BS in Pharmacy in 1955. After practicing in this profession for a few years, he entered the Indiana School of Dentistry, earned his Doctorate degree in 1962 and practiced dentistry in Frankfort for over 31 years. In 1987, their oldest son Dr. Joseph A. Ramos joined his dad in the practice until José’s retirement in December of 1992.
José was past president of the West Central Dental Association and served as an advisor to IU University Kokomo. In 2013 the Indiana Dental Association awarded Dr. Ramos a “Ground Breaker Award for Outstanding Contribution to Diversity in Leadership.” He was a long-time member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frankfort, a member of the Isla del Sol Yacht & Country Club in St. Petersburg, Florida and an avid golfer.
Surviving along with his wife: Gail D. Ramos of Frankfort are his children: Dr. Joseph A. (Betty) Ramos of Frankfort, M. Raymond (Chris) Ramos of Fishers, Caroline (Greg) Kroot of Indianapolis, Kristine (Bret) Myers of Noblesville, and Jimmy Ramos of Frankfort, 14 grandchildren: Jennifer (Felipe) Flores, Kristina (Oscar) Garibaldi, Andrew (Serena) Ramos, Carley (Joel) Gulley, Audrey (Nathan) Karnemaat, Anthony Ramos, Samantha Kroot, Evan Kroot, David Kroot, Charlie Kroot, Grace (Sam) Godby, Adam Myers, Olivia Ramos, and Owen Ramos, along with 6 great-grandchildren: Nicholas Garibaldi, Amalia Flores Ramos, Christopher Garibaldi, Ignacio Flores Ramos, Conrad Gulley, Annabelle Rae Karnemaat.
The mass of Christian burial celebrated by Father Paul Cochran and Father David L. Rasner will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday September 10, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 St. Mary’s Avenue, Frankfort, Indiana 46041. Visiting with the family will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Entombment will be in Clinton County Mausoleum at Green Lawn Cemetery, Frankfort.
