Driver Struck and Killed After Exiting Vehicle on I-65

On Saturday, Indiana State Police troopers were originally dispatched to a two vehicle crash on I-65 north bound lanes at the 225.4 mile marker. This is approximately 5 miles north of the Fair Oaks exit in Jasper County.

Preliminary investigation by Troopers Eric Rot and Zach Beaver shows that at approximately 7:20 p.m., a crash occurred between a silver 2007 Buick Lucerne driven by Andrew Hardwick, 28, of Indianapolis, and a silver 2017 Hyundai Sonata being driven by Andrew Tagli, 30, of Mokena, IL. The Buick had become disabled prior to the crash due to it having lost the front driver’s side tire. The Buick was partially sticking out into the left lane when it was struck by the Hyundai being driven by Tagli.

As a result of the impact, the Buick was pushed out of the roadway and the Hyundai spun, coming to a rest facing south in the northbound lanes. The driver of the Hyundai got out of the vehicle. Another vehicle, a gray 2011 Honda CRV, being driven by John Riley, 54, of Wheaton, IL, was traveling south when it struck Tagli as he stood outside his vehicle. Tagli was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jasper County Coroner. A passenger in Tagli’s vehicle, Callie Potts, 30, was airlifted to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. as a result of her injuries.
