Dwen E. Riggins

Dwen Ellen Riggins was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 26, 2024. She passed away at Witham Memorial Hospital with family by her side.

A lifetime resident of Boone County, she was born at Witham Hospital on June 15, 1939, to George Eugene and Martha Ann (Brandenburg) McDaniel.

On December 4, 1972, she married Larry K. Riggins in Gallatin, Tennessee. They resided on the Riggins family farm in Thorntown for 30 years. They moved to Lebanon in 2003 and were members of the First Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2016.

She was a graduate of Lebanon High School in the class of 1957. She was blessed with loving lifetime friends and “sisters of the heart”, Kay Pauley-French, Patty Rex, Karen Dickerson-Lang, and Nancy Swisher. She was a member of Rainbowettes, Rainbow for girls, Lady Elks, American Legion Auxiliary, and Eagles Auxiliary.

She was a former employee of McDaniel TV and Appliances working with her father for 14 years. She was also employed with Montgomery Ward, Paul Harris Distribution Center, and manager of Countryside Antique Mall in Thorntown from 1990 to 1995.

She enjoyed decorating her home, sewing and crafts, antiques, music, and playing cards. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang for many years with her father in the church choir. Music was a staple in her life, and she grew up surrounded by a musical family.

Devoted to family; church, home, and her animals were most important to Dwen. She loved her farm life. She and Larry always said how much they loved living in their little corner of God’s country.

Survivors include her son, Scott M. (Hendrkje) Riggins of Würzburg, Germany; daughter, Shari K. Riggins of Lebanon; stepson, Troy (Beth) Portish of Lebanon; brother, Toby McDaniel of Rochester, Illinois; grandchildren, Daniel J. (Julia) Riggins of Würzburg, Germany, Jordan L. Riggins of Lebanon, and Kandy (Kevin) Shoffner of Noblesville; great grandchildren, Charlie Riggins of Würzburg, Germany, Morgan, Sydney, and Brady Shoffner of Noblesville; niece, Mindy (Joerg) Pflugi of Switzerland; and great nephew, Finnegan Pflugi of Switzerland.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters-in-law, Sharon McDaniel and Judith Riggins and her beloved constant furry companion, Cocoa.

Celebration of Life services are planned for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 1383 East 75 North in Lebanon, Indiana with Rev. David Wright officiating. No visitation is planned.
Inurnment will take place at a later date at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory in Lebanon, Indiana have been entrusted with her arrangements.
