Edward “Ed” Carney, Jr.

Edward “Ed” Ernest Carney, Jr., 63, of Frankfort, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Franciscan Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Frankfort on June 23, 1957 to Edward Ernest and Arjarry Louise (Thompson) Carney, Sr. He married Cheryl Hinton on August 21, 1999 at Frankfort First Church of the Nazarene; she survives.

Ed was a 1975 graduate of Frankfort High School.  He had worked for Peter Paul and Frito Lay before retiring from NHK in 2019.  He was a member of Frankfort First Church of the Nazarene.

He and his wife Cheryl were members of the Christ-centered 12 Step program “Celebrate Recovery” and they started a local group in Frankfort.  For 10 years, he loved running the program, ministering and witnessing to others, and hugging every person who came through it.  Ed was always happy and smiling.  He enjoyed vegetable gardening, vacationing, drawing, mushroom hunting, and fishing.

In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his daughters, Jackie Carney (Jeremy Shaff) and Taren Ruiz (Travis) both of Frankfort; sisters, Cathy Norris (Ron) and Lorraine Atchley (Steve) both of Frankfort; and grandchildren, Alexis, Katelyn, Jocelyn, Payton, Holden, Jaxon, Taryn, and Carter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother, Robert Carney.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.  The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 5 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Frankfort First Church of the Nazarene, 2056 E. Wabash St., Frankfort, IN.  Pastor Gordon Smith will officiate.  A live stream of the funeral service will be available at f1naz.org for those who would like to join virtually.

In adherence to the current CDC guidelines, it is requested that guests follow the appropriate social distancing and the wearing of masks.
