Ellen L. Hunter, 86, of Frankfort, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at her home in Frankfort. She was born December 31, 1936, in New Castle, IN, to Frank and Louise Knoll Reifel. She married William “Bill” Hunter; he preceded her in death on February 14, 1994.
Ellen graduated in 1954 from Frankfort High School and then attended beauty college in New Albany. She owned and operated her beauty shop while delivering newspapers and working in the cafeterias in the school systems and raising her family. She later worked as a healthcare giver. She loved to read, crochet coat hangers, and watch the Colts play. Most of all, Ellen loved her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren. Ellen was a member of the Community Christian Church. She enjoyed attending a ladies breakfast club regularly.
Ellen is survived by her son, Timothy (Carol) Forlow of Logansport; daughters, Debra (Michael) Pendley of Faulkville, Alabama, Vickie (Thomas) Morton of Whiteland, and Catherine (Thomas) Tocco of Walton; sister-in-law, Janice (Virgil) Humphrey of Frankfort; grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) Thomas, Elizabeth (Jaime) Smith, Elizabeth (Don) Yackel, Emily (Brandon) Sparkman, Erin (Mike) Morahn, Jeff Morton, Jessica (Tom) Shields, Matthew Tocco, and Tara (Matt) Steele; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A memorial gathering will be held on November 11, 2023, from 1 to 4 pm at her home in Frankfort. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
