Ellen Saylor, 94, of Rossville, was received unto her Lord on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at her home. She was born in Middlesboro, KY on April 5, 1926 to William and Ossie Mae (Allen) Miracle. She married Garfield Saylor on February 14, 1942; he preceded her in death on September 11, 1992.
Ellen was a charter member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Delphi where she was a pastor’s wife for many years, and she sang with her children and family. Through her living testimony she brought many people to the Lord. Ellen enjoyed cooking, especially her fond family favorites which included chicken and dumplings and stacked applesauce cake.
Ellen is survived by son, William (Jay) Saylor of Rossville; daughters, Thelma “TJ” (Steve) Strong of Battle Ground, Terrie Lee (Jim) Unger of Rossville; 19 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 39 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandson. The family is thankful and wants to recognize a really good friend “Kenny” that helped keep Mom in her home for the final days of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughters, infant Ella Sue Saylor, Ollie Mae Shackelford, and Dee Kelly; son, Phillip Gregory Saylor; granddaughter, Lisa Anne Mills; sisters, Myrtle Moyers and Elizabeth Sandifur; and an infant sister, Josephine.
A private family service will be held on Wednesday, December 23 at 10:00 am. Extended family and friends are invited to join the live stream available on the Genda Funeral Home website, www.gendafuneralhome.com. Elder Joel Whitehead will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Rossville Cemetery. Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
