Elmer Mays, 90, Clarks Hill, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022, at his residence. He was born on March 1, 1931, in Mulberry to Noel and Lucille (Knowles) Mays. He married Sandra Stoms in 1954. She preceded him in death on January 30, 2017.
Elmer was a 1949 graduate of Mulberry High School. He went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1953. He then worked for Public Service Indiana until he retired. He was a member of the Wildcat Conservation Club, the American Legion and Masonic Lodge #618. He enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling with his wife around the country in their motorhome to see NASCAR and Sprint Car races. He enjoyed making new friends in his travels and enjoyed hosting them when they would come see races in Indiana. He loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with each of the five generations.
Elmer is survived by his children, Teresa Douglass, Toni (Tom) Osborn, and Troy Mays; sister, Phyllis (Dan Snodgrass); grandchildren, Brandi (Robert) McCoy, Matt Huffer, Douglas Osborn, Julie (Chris) Brown, Melissa Mays, Sarah (Adam) Hudson; great grandchildren, Makayla, Brody, Kaden, Taylor, Josie, Kinzie, Mia, Lauren, Claire, Kane, Keegan, Natalie, Adriel; and two great-great grandchildren, Beau and Ruth.
Along his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Kenneth.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 10am until the time of the service at 12pm at Genda Funeral Home ~ Mulberry Chapel. Burial will follow Fair Haven Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Clinton County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.
