Exterior Work to Start on Clinton County Courthouse Week of September 25

For those of you wanting on work to start on the Clinton County Courthouse and the new Annex Building, work is getting ready to start on the building — next week.

“The exterior at the Courthouse is slated to start seeing some action the week of  September 25,” said Clinton County Commissioners President Jordan Brewer Monday morning following their meeting. “You’ll see some fencing and scaffolding going up and soon after you should see the restoration of the exterior start.”

As far as the big hole located in downtown, which will be the new Annex Building,  Brewer said he is being told by the contractors that they are beginning to mobilize in the hole to start work on the Annex. No specific date has been mentioned.

In other news, the Commissioners tabled any discussion on the proposed Dollar General store that is going in on the west side of town.

Brewer added one of the reasons for this action was a lack of information. He also said there was another reason.

“Probably the more important reason was the commitments from the current landowner haven’t seen signed,” said Brewer. “Area Plan needs to get those signed first. Otherwise, we have no ability to hold them to it  when it gets recorded.”

Brewer said a decision would be made next month.

“Different from the other two Commissioners, I set on Area Plan (Commission),” said Brewer. “They have been to the Area Plan Commission twice. So I’ve heard it and they haven’t. We’re at a point where they have a couple of questions. To move forward with it, the developers will need to be there and probably some people from the town so we can more of a defined definition of what they do and don’t want.”
