WEST LAFAYETTE, IN — The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) teamed with the Indiana Office of Energy Development and the Purdue Institute for Energy Innovation Monday to bring the EIA Annual Energy Outlook 2026 Roadshow to Purdue University. The collaborative event featured data-driven panel discussions focused on the complex engineering and economic realities reshaping the energy futures of Indiana and the Midwest.
The event emphasized the critical intersection of economic analysis and engineering required to solve modern power challenges. Highlighting the morning sessions, EIA Administrator Tristan Abbey delivered a keynote presentation detailing the comprehensive findings of the newly released Annual Energy Outlook 2026. Additional partners supporting the high-level event included the Midwestern Governors Association and the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue.
“We appreciate the open dialogue and partnerships with the EIA and Purdue University,” said Indiana Energy Secretary Suzanne Jaworowski. “Indiana is on the leading edge of energy innovation, and this data-driven research will help guide us in meeting the growing energy demand while protecting affordability and reliability for all Hoosiers.”
The regional infrastructure discussions come at a time of unprecedented grid demand. Nationally, the EIA expects U.S. electricity generation to grow 2.2 percent to a record 4,368 billion kilowatt-hours (BkWh) this year, with an additional 1.7 percent growth projected for next year. Monday’s sessions featured a dialogue titled “From Outlook to Action: The Midwest Energy Opportunity,” where Administrator Abbey and Secretary Jaworowski discussed federal projections with actionable strategies.
The program also featured a high-impact panel exploring “Growth, Affordability, and Reliability: The Engineering and Economics of Powering AI and Manufacturing.” Featured presenters included key tech and utility industry leaders, such as Christopher Johnson with AEP, Ryan Tanghe with Amazon Web Services, and Scott Bowers of Hoosier Energy.
