Frankfort High School and Frankfort Middle School were both placed on ‘Lock Out’ for a short period of time Thursday afternoon due to a shot being fired in an apartment on Maish Road just north of the railroad tracks.
Community Schools of Frankfort Superintendent Don DeWeese said they were notified of a shot fired in an apartment and elected to put both Frankfort Middle School and Frankfort High School on ‘Lock Out’ at 2:10 p.m. and began preparing for a possible delayed dismissal. DeWeese said the district was notified by the Frankfort Police Department at approximately 2:35 p.m. that there was not a threat to the area and it was safe to operate a normal dismissal. The ‘Lock Out’ was lifted at 2:45 p.m. and school dismissal proceeded as usual.
In a phoned message to all parents, Community Schools of Frankfort Assistant Superintendent Joel McKinney said students were not in any danger at any time time during the incident.
Frankfort Police Chief Troy Bacon said the incident happened at the Stone Ridge Apartments and that a gun shot went through a wall at an apartment. Bacon added they are investigating the matter.
