FHS Golf Team Takes Seventh at Crawfordsville Invitational

The Frankfort High School boys’ golf team placed seventh in the 10-team Crawfordsville Invitational Saturday. The Hot Dogs finished with a team score of 380 on a cool windy day.

JT Whitlock led FHS with a 91 followed by Camden Cesare 95, Kasey Klecz 97, Nolan Varner 97 and Reece Mitchell 108.

Tri-West won the tournament wiht a 327 and Western Boone’s Dalton Davis took medalist honors with a 75.

FHS golfers have a full week with home matches Tuesday (Tipton) and Thursday (Crawfordsville) and then a trip on Saturday to the recently scheduled Lebanon Invitational.

Earlier in the week, the Hot Dogs opened their home season with a 176-210 victory over Lafayette Jefferson. Whitlock shot a 3-over-par 39 to secure medalist honors. Simon Weber was next with 44 followed by Klecz 46 and Drew Grismer 47.

The junior varsity golfers learned the value of the fifth score in a match. After the best four scores for FHS were tallied — Cesar 49, Reece Mitchell 56, Ramsey Mitchell 61 and Dakota Bailey 66, the team total were identical 232’s. Ties are broken by using the the fifth golfer’s score. Sam Wilson had 67 to win it for FHS.

On April 14, Frankfort and 19 other teams played at the Tippecanoe Country Club for the Twin Lakes Invitational. The Hot Dogs finished 15th in an extremely talented field with a team score of 373. Whitlock led Frankfort with an 84 followed by Weber 88, Klecz 92, Grismer 109 and Varner 109.

Noblesville, led by Division I recruit Clay Merchant, who carded an impressive 66 to take medalist honors by six strokes, won the team title by 14 shots with a team score of 304. Peru was second at 318.
