As a part of their ongoing effort to strengthen the partnership between community members and the police force, applications are being accepted for the Police Department’s fifth Citizens Police Academy that begins Thursday, September 19. Classes will be held every Thursday from 6-9 p.m. September 19 through October 29. Applications are available at the Police Department at 201 West Washington Street. The deadline to submit them is Friday, August 23 by 3 p.m.
According to Captain Jake Myers, who leads the program, classes will take place at the Police Department along with other designated locations officers use for work and training.
“Classes will cover a variety of topics including but not limited to criminal and vehicle laws, DUI enforcement, criminal investigations, diversity, use of force, K9, patrol, and more. Several police officers, law enforcement officials from other agencies and officials in the court system will assist us with instruction of the courses offered. We will host a formal graduation ceremony on November 21, with Academy participants required to attend eight of the nine classes to be eligible to graduate. We have graduated 54 citizens from the last four sessions of the Academy and look forward to adding more knowledgeable, engaged residents to that total at the completion of this upcoming session,” Myers said.
The program also will include an insight of the relations Frankfort Police have with Clinton County Central Dispatch, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton County SWAT and the court system.
There is no cost to participate in the Academy. Participants are required to be at least 18 years of age and either be Frankfort residents or work in the City of Frankfort. Proof of residency or local employment is required.
