Fire and Ice In Downtown Frankfort This Saturday: Weather Nice For Ice

The 3rd Annual Fire and Ice Festival is coming to downtown Frankfort.  Talented Ice Carvers will arrive early Saturday morning and start the carving to reveal the magic in 300 and 600 pound blocks of ice.

Several of the Ice creations will be on display by Noon and carvers will still be working away on Ice Sculptures through much of the afternoon.

Shine 99 Radio will be broadcasting LIVE from the Gazebo in downtown Frankfort from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Encompass Credit Union is sponsoring the Shine 99 remote so Susan Grasham and COACH Kids can get the word out on the need for more Mentors for kids in Clinton County.  The Fire and Ice Festival provides an ideal experience to share with a mentoring hero and mentored youth.

Corporate Sponsors this year make it possible for youth teams to create thier own masterpiece.  This “Contest” will feature several teams trying their own hand at carving ice.  This contest will take place at the Gazebo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donation Buckets will help cheer on the various teams.  Youth participants will get instructions and tips from experienced carvers as the “masterpiece” is created by the first timers.

The Fire and Ice Festival was an idea that came to life in 2016 under the leadership of Dr. Jill Snyder DDS.  This year the Frankfort Jaycees are providing leadership for the event, led by a four person committee.

Nathan Crabtree, one of the JayCee leaders, said that this year the Boy Scout Troop 338 will be putting on a Fire by Friction demonstration at Memorial Park by the Gazebo at about 1:00 PM Saturday.  Firecrafter Scouts will demonstrate how fire can be created using NO MATCHES or FLINT, but only using a wood floorboard and wood spindle with a bow and shoelace or leather strap.  Favorite woods for the floorboard include Red Oak and Spindle is often made of Sycamore.
