Firefighters Respond to Commercial Structure Fire

Frankfort Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday morning to a commercial structure fire at 600 West Kyger Street. When units arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the northeast corner of the structure owned by Werner & Son, Inc.

Firefighters immediately began fire suppression tactics. Firefighters made entry on the northwest side of the structure and encountered intense heat and flames. Battalion 1 called for a second alarm, and 10 firefighters were called in to man the city while all other on duty Frankfort Fire Department personnel and apparatus were on the scene of the fire. All off duty firefighters were called to report to headquarters, and Lebanon Ladder 231 was requested to respond to the scene for addition aerial suppression support.

A total of 40 firefighters are on scene including firefighters from Lebanon Fire Department. Volunteer departments from Michigantown and Rossville have been called in to cover Frankfort stations while all FFD personnel and apparatus are at the scene.

According to Assistant Chief Ed Cripe, “Fire suppression is still taking place at this time with no firefighter injuries reported. Please avoid this area to allow room for emergency personnel and equipment as our firefighters work to control this fire.”

Once the fire is extinguished, it will be under investigation by the Frankfort Fire Department. More information will be released once the investigation is completed.
