An adult male lost his life Friday evening when the vehicle he was driving collided with the back of a disabled vehicle alongside the interstate. At 7:39 p.m. emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious five vehicle crash on I-465 eastbound at the 0.5 mile marker, near East Street. Despite life saving efforts by crews from the Indianapolis Fire Department, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other people injured in the crash.
Preliminary investigation has led Troopers to believe a pick-up truck pulling a camper had broken down on the left shoulder out of the roadway. That vehicle was being hooked up to by Zores Wrecker Service when the vehicle driven by the deceased male left the roadway and struck the rear of the camper. That vehicle then spun back into the roadway and struck two other vehicles. Although not suspected, the deceased driver will be tested for possible intoxication, which is protocol in all serious or fatal crashes.
The eastbound lanes of I-465 were restricted for nearly 3 hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld until proper notification to family can be made. There is no further information to release at this time.
