Artist Nicole Ingalls was selected to design the sculpture through a process facilitated by the Tippecanoe Arts Federation. The artist used found materials and archival photographs to incorporate the town’s history into her artwork. Ingalls says, “Emergence brings together images of Flora from past to present portraying the often fragmented memories of our histories. Utilizing a hand painted woodcut style, the images themselves become condensed and simplified, mirroring our dwindling memories of times forgotten. Wood from the Flora Depot, as well as wood and metal from a local farm, were incorporated for structural support, much like agriculture and businesses over time laid the foundation for Flora.”
