At approximately 3:52 p.m. Thursday, officers from the Indiana State Police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department responded to a four-vehicle crash on I-69 near the 259-mile marker, in which four people were injured.
The preliminary crash investigation by Master Trooper Lee Williams revealed that traffic was backed up, in a work zone, on southbound I-69 near the 259-mile marker. Raquin Pommer, 23, Nashville, N.C., was driving a 2020 Hino Box truck southbound in the work zone. Pommer failed to stop for the slowing or stopped traffic and rear-ended a 2020 Ford Escape. The Escape was driven by Chase Foreman, 22, Marion. The momentum of the box truck and the Escape continued into an adjacent lane hitting a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Brandon Folgers, 26, Anderson, and a 2011 Chrysler 200 driven by Jalyn Moore, 21 Summerville.
Foreman was flown from the crash scene, via medical helicopter, to a Fort Wayne hospital with life threatening injuries. Folgers was transported, via ambulance, to a Muncie hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. The other two drivers were transported to local hospitals for medical checks. They were released having suffered bruises and abrasions.
This crash is still under investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to the crash.
