Four Vehicle Crash on Interstate 65 Injures One

On Jan 24, at approximately 5:10 p.m., a four vehicle crash occurred on I-65 southbound at the 218 mile marker that resulted in traffic being stopped for several hours.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kurtis Jones revealed that a white 2017 Volvo semi owned by Sysco,(Indianapois, IN) and driven by Jack Smith, 60, of Carmel, IN was southbound in the right lane approaching traffic that had slowed for an earlier crash. The semi struck a black 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup that was being driven by Brian Wynstra, 49, of Monon, IN. This impact caused the pickup to strike the trailer of a semi that was being driven by John Arney, 41, of Jackson, MI. The pickup then struck a gray 2017 Ford Edge, driven by Adam Steffen, 42, of Zionsville, IN.

The driver of the pickup, Brian Wynstra, suffered injuries as a result of the crash and was flown to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL for treatment. All other drivers refused medical treatment at the scene. The south bound lanes were closed for approximately 3 hours due to crash scene cleanup and for the helicopter to transport the injured.
