Healthy Communities of Clinton County Coalition held its Fourth Annual Walking Event on 911 ‘In Honor of All Who Serve’ Tuesday afternoon in downtown Frankfort.
“We’re always honored to have so many of our first responders come out to this event so that we can remember all of those who lost their lives on 911 and to remember all of our first responders in the community would be the people on the front lines if we had another catastrophe in our community,” said Healthy Communities of Clinton County Coalition Executive Director Lorra Archibald.
The walk began at Old Stoney, then headed to the Clinton County Courthouse where they were met by Veterans Affairs Officer Joe Root, who gave a brief speech about the memorials on the square. After that, they walked down to the police station, then to Frankfort Fire Department Station 2 before returning to Veterans Park for a brief ceremony.
“This is our best attended that we have,” said Archibald. “I think people respond well to this walk, support it and try to give our first responders a good honoring,” said Archibald.
In the United States, Patriot Day is observed as the National Day of Service and Remembrance, and is celebrated each year in memory of the 2,977 people killed in the 2001 September 11 attacks.
“The thing that we do is we walk, we stop in different areas where the first responders work and also at the Veterans Memorial at the courthouse,” said Archibald. “Then we give every first responder and veteran a certificate and a pin. We try to make them different every year so that if they come every year, they can collect those.”
