The City of Frankfort announced its receipt of a $200,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration to develop a comprehensive safety plan as part of the administration’s Safe Streets for All program, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the roadway.
The City is expected to utilize the grant funding to conduct a thorough safety analysis of its transportation system to identify high-risk locations and develop strategies to improve the safety of the roads for all users, such as pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. According to Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets, the plan is intended to prioritize safety improvements and allocate resources to implement effective solutions.
“We are thrilled to receive this significant grant from the Federal Highway Administration,” Sheets said. “When Jason Forsythe and Kimberly Black approached me about the grant I knew we had to apply for it. This funding will enable us to take proactive steps to enhance safety on our roads and streets. By implementing evidence-based strategies, we can create a safer environment for everyone in our community.”
Street Department Superintendent Jason Forsythe commented about how the grant will impact the roadways that his crews experience every day.
“This grant will allow us to make significant improvements to our city’s infrastructure and ensure the safety of all who use our roads,” Forsythe said. “We are excited to get started on this important project and what this plans means for future generations.”
The grant will aid in progress toward the City’s goal of achieving zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries in the future.
The Safe Streets for All program is a multi-year initiative funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The program provides funding to states and local governments to develop and implement comprehensive safety plans, engineering improvements, education and enforcement campaigns and other strategies.
