The City of Frankfort Street Department announced its upcoming transition to a new, safer and more efficient means of collecting trash for residents by moving trash collection to curbside collection on residents’ regular collection days beginning Jan. 2.
The City stated that the transition was sparked by the successful launch of its automated trash collection program in November 2022 as the new, larger trucks proved to improve efficiency but also proved to be too large to maneuver through some of Frankfort’s alleys safely. In response to the need for safer alternatives, the department decided that street-side pickup will eliminate the safety risk and ensure residents receive reliable service.
Recycling will still operate on Wednesdays, which have been noted as dedicated recycling collection days, and residents are instructed to place recyclables curbside where trash is collected.
The complete schedule, details about the new system and resources regarding the transition are available on the City website at frankfort-in.gov, and community members may also contact the Street Department at 765-659-2912 for more information. Updates will be shared on the website, City social media, the Connect Frankfort IN app and mailers sent to all residents with their utility bill.
“The City of Frankfort is dedicated to providing a safe and efficient waste collection system for everyone,” the City released. “This transition to curbside pickup will not only improve service but also prioritize the safety of our dedicated sanitation workers.”
