Frankfort Baseball Rallies for Victory Over Northwestern

The Frankfort High School baseball team improved to 8-5 on the season with a come-from-behind 7-5 victory over Northwestern in eight innings Monday night.

Christian Lopez and Braden Compton each had three hits for the Hot Dogs, and Deacon Spencer added an inside-the-park home run. Connor Boone pitched a strong seven innings to get the win and Benito Lopez threw a perfect inning for the save.

On Saturday, Frankfort defeated Clinton Central in the opening game of the county tournament. Compton earned the victory and Jose Valdes Sandoval picked up his fourth save of the season.

In the championship game, the game was tied 1-1 with Clinton Prairie when the game was called because of rain. Boone pitched a scoreless inning of relief and had a big double in the seventh inning.

The day before, Christian Lopez made history by throwing a perfect game with the help of catcher Jack Wilkins and a strong defense behind him in a 10-0 victory over North Montgomery. Lopez, Wilkins and Roger Angeles each had two hits in the victory.

On April 23, Frankfort defeated North Montgomery 7-4. Casey Henry earned his third victory of the season and Sandoval picked up the save. Spencer, Angeles and Wilkins had two hits each for the Hot Dogs.

In softball, Frankfort won the county tournament on Saturday by defeating Clinton Central 10-5 in the first round and then downing Clinton Prairie 12-7 in the title tilt.

Morgan Dean led the offense on the day with six hits, including five singles, and a triple, and scored six runs. Avery Drew went 5 for 8, with three singles, two doubles and five runs scored, while Katie Roberts was 4 for 7 with three singles, a double and two runs scored. Kimee Kingma and Karim Quinones each had three hits.

Drew picked up both victories.

On Friday, Frankfort blanked North Montgomery 12-0 in five innings. Kingma and Chloe Roberts each went 2-for-2 and Drew added a pair of doubles. Sydni Whitaker had two hits, while Dean and Kiyomi Perkins each had a hit. Drew went four innings for the victory.

In track, both the boys and girls teams brought home the Clinton County Meet championship — completing the clean 4-0 sweep in combination with cross country for the first time in at least six years.

Individual champions for the boys were 4×800 relay (Trenado Alanis, Kevin Wilkins, Asensio-Mora and Hugo Hernandez), Manny Garcia in the 100 and 200, Hernandez in the 1,600, boys 4×100 relay (Evan Jordan, Flores Quintanilla, Sam Michael and Garcia), Zeke VanDeventer in the shot put and Miguel Cardenas in the pole vault.

Individual champion for the girls were 4×800 relay (Blazia Sallee, Carina Alanis, Ingrid Guijosa Valdes and Christina Espidio), Nallely Alanis in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Espidio in the 400, 4×400 relay (Payton Dubree, Guijosa Valdes, Alysha Ramey and Nallely Alanis), Kenya Garcia in the discus and Ella Myers in the shot put.

In girls’ tennis, Frankfort improved to 7-1 on the season with a 4-1 victory over Lafayette Jefferson on April 24. Singles winners were Riley Isgrigg and Ashlyn Harshbarger along with the doubles teams of Abby Pierce and Rylo Seibert as well as Jalynn Kidwell and Rebecca Perez.

The day before, Frankfort defeated Western Boone 4-1 in Sagamore Conference action. Singles winners were Emily Michael and Isgrigg, while the doubles teams of Pierce/Seibert and Kidwell/Perez were victorious.

In boys’ golf, Frankfort journeyed to Lebanon to participate in the Kent Frandsen-Ulen Invitational on Saturday. The 16-team field consisted of seven of the top 20 ranked teams in the state. Sascha Pirch led FHS with a 79. Carmel won the team title, while Clay Stirsman of Carmel took medalist honors with a 6-under-par 64.

On April 23, Frankfort lost to Tipton 161-195. Pirch led FHS with a 37.
