The Frankfort City Council approved amending the 2018 salary ordinance by allowing the Frankfort Parks Department to hire an administrative assistant instead of a laborer Tuesday night.
“We’re retooling our parks department,” said Mayor Chris McBarnes. “We’re redirecting our efforts to better serve the people of our city and one move we are making is adding a full time administrative assistant position at the parks next year.”
The council suspended the rules and passed the ordinance on all three readings to Parks Superintendent Travis Sheets can begin the hiring process.
McBarnes said he has found this position to be crucial to the operation of the parks.
In other news, the council heard a report from Dr. Jill Snyder on the renovation she has done to the old United Way Building downtown.
Snyder told the board the building is being converted into an event center capable of seating 200 people in a hotel ballroom type setting. She added she has four buildings downtown all of which are in some form of renovation.
Snyder also said the third Fire and Ice Festival in downtown Frankfort will be held on Saturday, February 10, and it will be run by the Frankfort Jaycees.
The council also approved a motion by councilman Jim Moyer to employ an outside attorney to handle personnel matters. The vote was 5-1 in favor of the proposal. Councilman Eric Woods cast the lone vote against.
