The Frankfort City Council approved a pair of resolutions Monday night which will allow them to express interest in purchasing real estate and appointing appraisers for the proposed new police station.
“We allowed the mayor to get proposals on both of these properties,” said Frankfort City Councilman Joe Palmer. “Then a decision can be made for the possible purchase (of one of the properties).”
The two properties under consideration is a 7.7 acre spot near Brock Grain Storage Systems on State Road 28 and the former CVS West building on the city’s west side. Mayor Judy Sheets added she has not yet ruled out the Frankfort Municipal Airport as a possibility.
Palmer said he like to see something in the next two to four weeks so they could possibly get something going before the end of the year.
In other news, the Council passed the second reading of an ordinance establishing new water rates and changes. The final step coming up is a public hearing on Monday, August 24, to be held at 7 p.m. in the Skanta Theatre at the Frankfort Community Public Library.
The Council also passed the first reading of an ordinance annexing certain territory to the City of Frankfort placing the same within the corporation boundaries thereof and making the same a part of the city. This is also known as the Interstate 65 Annexation.
A public hearing on the annexation is scheduled for Monday, October 26, and the earliest this would go into effect is March of 2024.
