Twenty-five years after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks changed the nation forever, members of Frankfort Firefighters Local 705 are inviting the community to come together for a day of remembrance, reflection and music.
On Friday, September 11, 2026, Frankfort will host both the 2nd Annual 9/11 Memorial Walk and a special 9/11 Memorial Concert at Prairie Creek Park, giving residents two opportunities throughout the day to honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives and remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.
A Morning Walk of Remembrance
The day’s events will begin with the 2nd Annual 9/11 Memorial Walk at 8:30 a.m.
Frankfort firefighters, community members and local residents are invited to walk together in remembrance of those lost on September 11 and to honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call.
“Your presence helps us remember, honor, and ensure we never forget,” the organization said in announcing the memorial walk.
The event recognizes not only those who died in the attacks but also the first responders and others who continue to live with the physical and emotional impact of that day.
An Evening of Music and Remembrance
The community will have another opportunity to gather later that day for the 9/11 Memorial Concert, presented by Frankfort Firefighters Local 705.
The concert will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Farmers Bank Performance Center Stage at Prairie Creek Park.
Live music will be provided by Penthouse Suite and Crowd Therapy, offering an evening of entertainment while maintaining the central purpose of the event: remembering and honoring those whose lives were changed forever on September 11.
For firefighters, the anniversary holds a particularly significant place in the history of the fire service.
On September 11, 2001, 343 members of the New York City Fire Department died while responding to the attacks at the World Trade Center. Along with police officers, emergency medical personnel and other first responders, they put themselves in harm’s way to help others.
Their sacrifice continues to serve as a reminder of the risks faced by firefighters and emergency responders every day when they answer the call for help.
Twenty-five years later, the memories of September 11 remain deeply woven into the nation’s history. Through the memorial walk, the concert and the presence of the community, Frankfort firefighters are helping ensure that the people who were lost—and the heroes who answered the call—are remembered, honored and never forgotten.
