Frankfort Decides to Close All Schools Beginning Monday

On Friday, the Community Schools of Frankfort announced they will be closing all schools in the Frankfort district beginning Monday, March 16, and lasting through Friday, April 3. At this time, school is scheduled to restart on Monday, April 6.

CSF Superintendent Don DeWeese sent the following letter home with students on Friday to let them know what the situation is.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

After consulting with the Clinton County Health Department and other health experts, we have decided to close all Frankfort schools starting Monday, March 16 through April 3, 2020.  We will assess the spread of the virus and will communicate if additional time off is needed prior to April 3.

The closure includes cancellation of all school practices, extra-curricular activities, as well as all school sponsored events. The plan is for all students and staff to return to school and resume normal activities on April 6.  All Clinton County school systems will close starting on Monday as well.

Beginning Monday, March 16, e-learning days will be utilized for delivering instruction to students in grades kindergarten through grade 12.  Students in grades K-8 will bring home printed materials that have been prepared by their teachers for student learning experiences.

Parents/Guardians and students are encouraged to communicate with their teachers through email.  If you do not know your teacher’s email address, you can find it on your school website. Teachers are also sending email information home with students.  While buildings will be closed, school administrators will be available via phone call during normal school hours. You are encouraged to contact the school if you have any questions.

Students in grades 9-12 will be using Canvas to receive instruction through their school-issued lap top computer.  Office hours for email communication and Canvas communication for all teachers will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30-2 p.m. each e-learning day.

Our Food Service Department will provide meals for pick up at three locations between the hours of 11 a.m. and  p.m.  These meals will be available during all ten of our e-learning days – Monday March 16 through Friday, March 20 and Monday, March 30 through Friday, April 3.

The locations are:  Suncrest Elementary School at the back parking lot.  Blue Ridge Elementary school at the back parking lot.  Frankfort High School at the back parking lot.  Meals will not be available during the week of Spring Break.

We recognize that this is a very unusual and challenging situation, but we are confident that our staff and families will work together to meet this challenge and continue to provide our students with great experiences to learn and grow.

We will continue to provide updates through our School Messenger calls as well as on our school websites.

Respectfully,

Don DeWeese, Superintendent
