Frankfort Fire Department to Hold Blessing, Push-In Ceremony for New Engine 3

The Frankfort Fire Department invites the community to their first-ever blessing ceremony, honoring their new Engine 3, on Thursday, April 16, at 5 p.m. at Fire Station 3, 1400 W. Barner Street in Frankfort.

The ceremony will include a blessing of the truck by Pastor Kevin Alber, followed by a wash down with commemorative towels provided by the fire department. Once complete, guests will be invited to help push the truck by hand into its bay of the firehouse.

“The push-in ceremony is a fire service tradition that dates back to the 1800s, paying tribute to firefighters that would push their horse-drawn engines back into the station after returning from a call,” said Chief Matt Stidham of the Frankfort Fire Department. “The idea is to honor this history and wish well upon our firefighters that will serve on the truck and those that will be served by our brand-new engine.”

The new truck replaces a 20-year-old truck and delivers state-of-the-art firefighting capabilities.
The event will be the first of its kind for Frankfort Fire Department.

“I’m proud of our fire department for carrying this tradition forward into our city,” said Mayor Judy Sheets. “This is a special opportunity for our community to show their support and gratitude for the hard work of our firefighters and their equipment.”
