Due to the increased risk of fire spread related to the dry conditions within our City and Territories that we are contracted with, I as Fire Chief will be instituting a burn ban that will take effect at 5:00pm October 1, 2025. In accordance with Indiana Fire Code Section 307.1.1 “the fire chief is authorized to require open burning be immediately discontinued if such open burning constitutes a hazardous condition” City of Frankfort Ordinance 14-08a states “during times of drought, high winds or any conditions that could contribute to a fire being spread, a burn ban may be enacted for the area protected by the Frankfort Fire Department.
Effective October 1, 2025 at 5:00pm, all outdoor burning activities are prohibited within the city limits and contracted areas in which Frankfort Fire Department serves; including Center Township, Jackson Township, Union Township and portions of Washington Township. This ban will include but is not limited to:
Campfires and bonfires
Yard debris burning
Agricultural burning
Open-pit fires
Burning of trash and waste materials
Fireworks
We kindly ask all residents, property owners and visitors to comply with this ban to prevent the potential for fire-related incidents that could endanger lives, property, and natural resources.
Violations of the burn ban may result in fines and penalties as stipulated by local ordinances. This ban will remain in effect till October 8, 2025 or said time that the Fire Chief has concluded that the ban should be lifted based on “No Threat to lives, property and the environment”.
