Frankfort Library to Host Book Panel Discuss with IU-Kokomo

The Indiana University Kokomo English Club will share academic scholarship with Clinton County by exploring the enormous influence of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein on modern culture. Learn about why the novel is still relevant and how the daily life of Americans reflect traces of the story from music, television, movies, and more.

The panel discussion, which is free, will take place on Friday, April 6, at 1:00 p.m. in Frankfort Community Public Library’s Skanta Theatre. Club members led by president, Mallory Jones, will form the discussion board. English professors Dr. Rachel Blumenthal and Dr. Karla Strouse will serve as support moderators of the event. Dean’s List honoree, Mallory Jones is a junior majoring in English Language and Literature and minoring in Creative Writing. Jones plans to attend graduate school with hopes of becoming a professor. Dr. Blumenthal (PH.D., Northwestern) specializes in American literature and the history of psychology. Dr. Karla Strouse is a professor of English and Humanities classes. She also leads students in The Innovation Symposium, a course that focuses on innovation in philanthropy, environment, and technology. More information about Indiana University Kokomo English Department is available on their website http://www.iuk.edu/humanities-and-social-sciences/english-language-studies/index.php, while the IUK English Club is on Facebook at www.facebook.com/EnglishIUK.

“Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein & Us; The Connection of Canonical Literature on Current Culture” is part of Frankfort Community Public Library’s One State / One Story: Frankenstein programming. One State / One Story: Frankenstein is an initiative designed by Indiana Humanities, in partnership with the Indiana State Library and Indiana Center for the Book, to encourage Hoosiers to read the classic novel as it turns 200 in 2018. More than a dozen programs—including a digital gaming workshop, a sci-fi and horror writing festival for teens, community reads and read-a-thons, and college and university partnerships—will bring Frankenstein to life all over the state. One State / One Story: Frankenstein has been made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Learn more at www.IndianaHumanities.org/ Frankenstein.
