Lion’s Annual Fish Fry is ‘in the books’ and successfully completed local sponsors were
Farmers Bank Del Real, Automotive were Group, Encompass Credit Union, Bailey Trucking ,
Federal Mogul, & Industrial Federal Credit Union

along with Lion’s famous fish breading and serving team and Dan’s Fish Fry. We got it done serving more people than last year, despite the rain, and earning more money for community projects.
Of course it couldn’t have been done without the over 400 hungry eaters. They would like thank you for your loyal support and encouragement to keep them able to do great things.
If you missed out, they will have a Chili Supper in the fall and another Fish Fry next year

The Lions Club works hard to raise this money so that they can meet the many challenges our community faces. The Lion’s motto is “WE SERVE” and couldn’t be prouder of the services they provide. The following is a list of just some of their current programs:

* Operation Kid Sight – Provides early vision screening to over 500
pre-school children every year.

* School-aged vision screening – Vision screening within the school
setting to grades 1, 3, 5, and 8, and new students.

* Donor Park – Adopted by the Lion’s for the community. In coordination
with the City Park maintenance, we clean and repair the greenery
and playground equipment, paint the fences, care for the bleachers,
basketball and horseshoe courts.

* Headstart Reading program – Retired teachers and librarians visit the
pre-K classrooms on a monthly basis and read and sing with the
students. We sent home over 240 books for the students to build their
own personal libraries this year.

* Senior Scholarships – Scholarships of $500 are awarded to two students
intending advanced degrees or certificates and valuing community
service as part of their future.

* Cane and Leader Dog – Local Lions facilitate connecting those with
severe vision impairment to the national programs available
through Lions. This year we have one individual who has
completed both training and now has the Leader Dog at home.
The individual credits vision help from the Lions since she was 5
when she had her first vision screening. We are humbled and
gratified by our opportunity to serve this individual.

What about all those Lion’s eye glass boxes all over town? Ever wonder where all those go? They are gathered from all over the state, cleaned, sorted, repaired and taken on mission trips to Mexico to share vision to folks less fortunate than us. For several years two of our club officers have traveled to Mexico for this distribution. They SERVE and come back ready to do more.

Lion’s have been in Frankfort over 85 years and operate nationally and internationally for over 100 years.

They are a club of around 20 individuals and always have room for folks with a community project they would like to work on or just a willing spirit to help others. Stop by for a quick dinner any 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 6:00pm at the Mainstreet Grill or call Mike Nichols 317-281-1949 or Pam Nichols at 765-650-0015.

The lions are ready to welcome you and have you join in on the pride and satisfaction from helping out our neighbors. When there is so much that concerns us in our daily lives, at least we can Serve.
