Frankfort Parks Department Announces Death Of Injured Deer At TPA Park Zoo

The City of Frankfort Parks Department has announced that the disgruntled, injured deer found alongside a few deceased animals last week has passed away despite efforts from veterinarians at the Purdue University Animal Hospital.

The City announced yesterday, Jan. 20 that the injured dear who was transported to Purdue University Animal Hospital on Jan. 16 succumbed to its injuries on Monday morning despite the efforts of the veterinary professionals. Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets released a statement regarding the death of the TPA Park Zoo animal, stating that she has and will remain in contact with the Purdue veterinary team.

“This is heartbreaking news,” Sheets said. “We were all hopeful for a positive outcome for Heron. I can’t thank the Purdue vets enough.”

Sheets stated in a video statement that the Purdue University Animal Hospital will be conducting a necropsy on the deceased deer to determine the cause of death and the City will continue an investigation into the situation involving the deceased animals and the USDA violations that were issued in December 2024.

In light of the event, Sheets and the Board of Public Works are expected to meet to discuss the future of the Frankfort Parks Department, including potential measures to enhance wildlife safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
