Law enforcement officers and agencies are frequently requested by businesses, schools, and community members for direction and presentations on what they should do if confronted with an active shooter event. The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E.) course, designed and built on the Avoid – Deny – Defend strategy developed by ALERRT at Texas State University which provides strategies, guidance, and a plan for surviving an active shooter/active aggressor event or other critical incident.
FPD Captain Brady Sorrells is a C.R.A.S.E. Certified Instructor and provided this training to Brock Grain employees and management this morning. Topics included the nature and prevalence of active shooter and active aggressor events; civilian response options of Avoid – Deny – Defend; the stages of human disaster response, and how to improve your response in order to influence survivability; and the role of first responders at a critical incident like an active shooter or active aggressor.
If you have a community group or business in need of this training and can host the presentation, please email [email protected]. Items required: meeting space, computer, projector screen, and speakers for audio. Training is provided by FPD for free.
FPD will also host C.R.A.S.E. courses for community members to attend free of charge throughout the year at the new police department training room. Be on the lookout for announcements of dates and times.
