As part of the Police Department’s ongoing communications, Police Chief Troy Bacon released 2017 statistics showing officers responded to and provided 13,093 police services last year, a decrease of 228 from 2016.
According to the department’s Uniform Crime Report statistics, in 2017, there was a 6% decrease in overall reported crimes in the City when compared with 2016. There was a 25% decrease in burglary, no change in reported larceny-theft and a 10% decrease in assaults. There was a slight increase in reported rapes (two more reported than 2016).
According to Chief Troy Bacon, “I am excited to see another decrease in Uniform Crime Report numbers in 2017. All credit goes to the men and women of the Frankfort Police Department who have embraced a relentless approach to arresting those responsible for committing crimes, being more visible to prevent crime, and working with the community to better the City of Frankfort.”
Overall, adult drug violation arrests saw another huge spike when compared with 2016. In 2017, there was a 33% increase in overall drug violation arrests in the City.
“We have continued to take an aggressive approach in the fight against drugs in our community. Patrol Officers are better trained and have embraced an aggressive approached to drug enforcement. Narcotics Detectives are more active than ever. Credit also goes to the community who has supplied us with numerous tips.” Bacon said.
The department also increased traffic stops, traffic and city ordinance warnings and citations in 2017. Frankfort Police conducted 4,355 traffic stops in 2017, a 40% increase over 2016. Police officers also issued 1,441 traffic and city ordinance violation warnings (6% increase) and 1,082 traffic and city ordinance citations (5% increase).
