Frankfort Ranked 11th on Safest Cities in Indiana List for 2018

SafeWise has announced that the City of Frankfort is number 11 on the “Safest Cities in Indiana Report” for 2018, the agency announced Tuesday.

Over the past two years, Frankfort has risen from 50th to 23rd in the National Council for Home Safety and Security’s ranking of safest cities in Indiana.

The 20 Safest Cities in Indiana in order with their town’s population is parenthesis are: 1. St. John (16,822); 2. Fishers (91,100); 3. Carmel (90,619); Crown Point (29,086); 5. Dyer (15,983); 6. Munster (22,865); 7. Westfield (38,186); 8. Columbus (47,222); 9. Vincennes (17.937); 10. Logansport (17,699); 11. Frankfort (15,987); 12. Brownsburg (25,648); 13. Zionsville (26,877); 14. “Indiana’s twenty safest cities vary considerably in size and location, but they’re all working hard to keep crime under control,” said SafeWise security analyst Alexia Chianis. “The cities on our list experienced an average violent crime rate nearly 85% lower than the state, according to the most recent FBI crime report. We were also impressed that cities which didn’t make our list, like Indianapolis, are leveraging new initiatives such as OneCOP to help improve police-citizen communication and reduce crime.”

To compile this report, SafeWise analysts reviewed the most recent 2016 FBI crime statistics and census population data. Our evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery) in each city per 1,000 people. If there was a tie, we also factored in the number of property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and car theft). Cities that fell below identified population thresholds or failed to submit a complete FBI crime report were excluded from the ranking system.
