Frankfort Senior High School Class of 1965 Holds 56-Year Reunion

Frankfort Senior High School class of 1965 held its 56-year class reunion on September 17 and 18. On September 17 the class of 1965 met at Prairie Creek Park for an enjoyable evening of karaoke and fantastic sandwiches catered by C&R Catering. On September 18 the class of 1965 met at 51 West Event Center for another enjoyable evening and a great meal catered by Shoup’s Catering.

There were about 80 attendees, 56 of whom were alumni of the Class of 1965.

The attendees were honored to have as a special guest S/Sgt Meredith New, who is a World War II veteran and is 101 years old. Meredith’s daughter Kathy (New) Needham is a classmate of the 1965 Class of FSHS.

New was a Staff Sergeant in the eighth Air Force from 1943 to 1945 and was a door gunner in a B-17Flying Fortress.

Another Class of 1965 classmate, Veteran’s Service Officer Joe Root, presented New with a flag that flew over the Nation’s Capital to honor New’s service in World War II. New was also given a ruptured duck pen that was given to all the World War II veterans when they returned home from the war. When asked if he still had the one he was given when he was discharged, he stated that the pin was on his hat!

The entire class was so excited to be able to talk to a World War II Veteran. Meredith was so intelligent and told stories about his time in World War II. His descriptions of the events in World War II were so vivid in his mind and the sharp recollection was outstanding
