The City of Frankfort Street Department announced its plans to move toward strictly street-side 
trash pickup for all residences effective Jan. 1, 2025.
Alongside the announcement, the City of Frankfort released more information about the reasons for the change:
Moving forward, all residential trash collection will occur curbside on their designated collection days – this will not change under the new system.
This change is driven by the successful implementation of the automated trash collection program. The new, larger trucks ensure efficient collection while prioritizing the safety of the City of Frankfort Sanitation employees. Since transitioning to automated trash collection in November 2022 the Street Department has proudly achieved 15 months with zero work-comp claims, a significant accomplishment for both the department and the City as a whole.
Unfortunately, some of Frankfort’s alleys are too narrow to safely accommodate the automated trash trucks. Street-side pickup will eliminate these safety concerns and ensure consistent, reliable service for all residents.
The dedicated recycling collection day will remain on Wednesdays, utilizing rear-load trucks specifically designed for navigating alleys. Residents are encouraged to continue their commitment to recycling by placing their recycle curbside on Wednesdays.

The City of Frankfort understands the importance of keeping residents informed.
