Update: Frankfort Sunday Night Shooting Remains Under Investigation; Suspects Detained, Two Victims Transported To Hospital

The Frankfort Police Department released information regarding an ongoing investigation into a shooting that resulted in the transportation of two Frankfort community members to the hospital Sunday evening.

The department stated that an ongoing investigation is underway into a shooting last night, Sunday, May 5 that resulted from an altercation in the area of Bunnell Street and Morrison Street near downtown Frankfort.

The department stated that all suspects in the altercation were detained and two victims were transported to the hospital.

The incident is currently an active investigation with detectives and crime scene investigators examining the scene. More information is expected to be released from the department later today, Monday, May 6.

On May 5, 2024 At approximately 8:36 p.m., Frankfort Police responded to the 300 Block of Bunnell Street for a report of a fight where it was reported shots were fired. As the officers arrived, multiple people were on scene with two suffering from gunshot wounds. The suspected shooter, 39-year-old Alvaro Leon-Bautista of Frankfort was quickly detained. As additional Frankfort officers arrived, along with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Natural Resources, two other victims were located with wounds caused by shrapnel.

Additional officers, detectives and our crime scene investigator responded to the scene. The two victims suffering from gunshot wounds were transported to IU Arnett Lafayette by Clinton County EMS. The two with shrapnel injuries declined medical treatment.

Leon-Bautista was initially arrested for Criminal Recklessness and Pointing a Firearm. He was transported to the Clinton County Jail. He has not been officially charged at this time.

This is an active investigation involving multiple different individuals and evidence. Our entire investigations division has been investigating the case since last night. Anyone having information regarding the case can contact the lead investigator, Detective Major Jason Albaugh.

Final decision on charges will be made by the Clinton County Prosecutors Office.

Due to the active investigation, the department stated that no further information will be released at this time.
