Frankfort High School had three individual champions at the ECIC wrestling meet in Jay County on December 28. This was the first time the Hot Dogs had participated in the 16-team invitational.
Individual champions for FHS included Armando Roa, Elijah Anthony and Christian Matias. Anthony was voted the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the tournament after his tech fall victory over a state-ranked Ohio wrestler.
The Hot Dogs finished fourth in the team standings.
On December 21, FHS finished seventh in the 16-team Twin Lakes Invitational. Individual champions for Frankfort were Anthony and Matias.
Next up for Frankfort is the Zionsville Invitational on Saturday.
Frankfort Split Weekend Contests
The Hot Dogs started off the new year with a 83-76 victory over Twin Lakes Friday night in Monticello. FHS came out really well from the start and put up 29 points in the opening quarter. The team scored 17 or more points in every quarter thereafter and shot 73 percent (19 of 26) from three-point territory as well as shooting 21 free throws.
Riley Goodnight led the Hot Dogs with 22 points. Cam Williams was next with 17 points, followed by Jade Ayers with 15, Braden Compton scored 14 and Trey Frazier added 11. According to head coach Nate VanDuyne, Deacon Spencer and Sam Michael did a great job coming in and giving quality minutes in the second quarter while a number of Hot Dogs were in foul trouble.
On Saturday night, Northwestern outscored the Hot Dogs 40-26 in the second half en route to a 72-61 victory. Frankfort led 34-32 at halftime.
Frazier led FHS with 21 points.
Frankfort will take a 2-5 record into next contest at home against Lebanon on Friday night.
