Frankfort Zonta Club Hosting Areawide Walk Downtown on November 20

The time is quickly approaching: “Zonta Says NO!”

This year the Zonta Club of Frankfort is hosting our areawide walk and it is set for Saturday, November 20, at the Courthouse. Held in Lebanon previously, we are excited to be hosting this annual event here in Frankfort for the first time. We will begin on the south side of the building at 10 a.m. where our local club will host members of the Indianapolis and Lebanon Zonta Clubs and members of the Clinton Prairie and Lebanon Z Clubs as we gather for our sixth annual Area 4 “Zonta Says NO!” walk to raise awareness to domestic violence and speak out against it!

The program for the event includes a welcome by Mayor Judy Sheets, along with her presentation of this year’s Proclamation in support of the “Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women” campaign. This year’s walk will kick off the 16-day campaign which runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women Day) and December 10 (Human Rights Day).

Domestic violence from a law enforcement perspective will be given by FPD Chief Scott Shoemaker, and two representatives of the YWCA Greater Lafayette, Meghann Dubea, Director – DVIPP (Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program) & Lindsey Mickler, President and CEO, will share information about their programs which provide support services to domestic violence victims and their families from Clinton County, along with five other counties.

After our speakers and a mini warm-up, the walk itself will be centered downtown on the sidewalks lining the inside and/or outside of the Courthouse square. (Note: Those who need or prefer a shorter walk may choose to walk the inner most perimeter of the building itself or sections of it, resting on our new “Zonta Club of Frankfort” benches located on each side of the Courthouse!). The walk will end on the north side of the Courthouse by 11:15 a.m. with a closing prayer.
