Fred F. Heavilon, 96, formerly of Frankfort, passed away at Brownsburg Health Care on June 28, 2018. Fred was born on October 27, 1921, in Clinton County to Hobart P. and Flossie Inez (Fickle) Heavilon.
Fred graduated from Jefferson High School in 1939. He entered the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes Naval Station in 1940 and served in WWII aboard CA-25, the cruiser Salt Lake City, in the Pacific Ocean. In 1955 he retired at the rank of Gunner’s Mate Chief Petty Officer.
During his career, Fred worked for and owned Heavilon Credit Bureau and Collection Service. He was very active in the community serving as Past Master of Vesta Lodge #136, member of the York Rite Masonic Bodies, Clinton County Chapter 82 RAM – Frankfort Council, #46 CM Frankfort Commandery #29 K. T., Murat Temple Shrine, American Legion post #12 and 40 + 8 at the VFW. He was also a life member of the Elks Club #560, as well as a member of the Moose Lodge, TPA Association, and Frankfort Country Club. He served as Past President of the Frankfort Lions Club, Indiana Collectors Association, D.S. of Indiana, and was a member of the Sebring Municipal Golf Club.
Fred is survived by his children, Fred (Anne) Heavilon Jr. of Easton PA, Delva (Art) Roberts of Indianapolis, and Fern Bradley of Indianapolis; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his brothers, Philip, Jim, and Max; and sisters, Jean Sappington and Inez Catron.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm to the start of the funeral service at 2:00 pm at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort. Burial will follow at Bunnell Cemetery.
