Frederic H. Fladd, 85, formerly of Frankfort, Ind., died April 24, 2024 at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born on June 27, 1938 in Rochester, New York to Harold J. and Grace E. (Minihan) Fladd. He married Helena “Sis” Smith on June 23, 1979 in Danville, IL and she survives.
Fred was a 1957 graduate of Rochester Hi
gh School in New York and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Norwich University in Vermont. He was in the United States Army serving with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina from 1961 to 1963 and the 2nd Armored Calvary Regimen in Germany from 1963 to 1965 earning 2 Bronze Stars with Valor for his service in the Vietnam War. He ended his military career in Northfield, Vermont at Norwich University as an ROTC instructor. Fred held many managerial positions including Ready Plastics in Vermont, Hoover International in Kentucky, Crellin in Frankfort, National Seal in Frankfort and retiring from Mallory Controls in Frankfort. He was also the City Street Commissioner for the city of Frankfort. After retirement, Fred volunteered over five thousand hours at the Roudebush VA Medical Center and started a Vet-to-Vet counseling program in both Frankfort and at the VA Medical Center, along with a patient advocate program. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frankfort where he was Lector, Eucharist Minister, and managed the church building. He was on the City Council, Frankfort Main Street, Hot Dog Festival Committee, Knights of Columbus, and Frankfort Country Club.
He is survived by his wife: Sis Fladd of Whitestown, son: John (Debbie) Fladd of Manchester, NH, daughters: Kandy Robinson of Indianapolis and Lena Guest of Buffalo, NY, step-daughters, Kathy (Charles) Richardson of Covington, Kristy (Brian) Johnson of Ridge Farm, IL, brother: Admiral Wirt (Val) Fladd of Goodyear, AZ, grandchildren: Shelbi (Dillon) Mang, Zach Robinson, Harvest Fladd, Eric (Kerri) Burke, Daren (Lachelle) Burke, Keith Burke, James Watkins, JerriAnn (Thomas) Williams, Gordon Turner Jr., Kevin Chaney, Chelsea Johnson and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Marc Robinson, along with aunts and uncles.
Memorial visitation will be from Noon-2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. A Rosary service will begin at 1 p.m. with the Memorial service with Military Honors beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
